What if I have an injury?
Don’t we all?! Niggling injuries are a part of life, and Pilates lessens symptoms by strengthening surrounding areas with exercise modifications (or skipping certain exercises entirely.) Due to Pilates’ emphasis on postural alignment, core control, and breath work, it’s a fantastic low-impact exercise for injury prevention and rehabilitation. Private sessions are extremely helpful here, as I tailor the exercises specifically to your body, and weak areas will see improvement over time.
Can I come if I’ve never done Pilates before?
Absolutely! Unless specifically noted as an intermediate or advanced practice series, every drop-in class will include exercise layers and modifications to meet your body where it is at on that day. I’m a beginner-friendly instructor and will make sure you feel safe and stable in the moves before advancing to trickier postures; humility is your friend here, and Pilates itself is a great teacher in that way.
Booking a private or duet session is also a great way to make quick progress and feel confident moving to a group format.
What should I wear?
Whatever you’re most comfortable in. Truly. Ideally, a sweat-wicking t-shirt/tank top and leggings. Exercises are performed barefoot (but socks are permitted!)
Bring your own exercise mat, or borrow a studio mat for free!
It’s been a game changer for me since I struggle with chronic pain. Shelby is fun, calm, encouraging, non-judgmental about my level of ability from week to week and very passionate about women’s health. The balance and posture, all around, and restorative classes all offer me something different that I need… especially as I age! I highly recommend you try it at least once to see if it helps you!
